Project

Colourspot
Problem
Standard colour vision tests are difficult to administer to young children. Researchers needed a way to assess colour vision deficiency in children that was engaging, age-appropriate, and scientifically valid without requiring clinical-grade equipment.
Approach
We built Colourspot in Unity3D as an iPad game where children tap coloured dots. Custom GLSL shaders were used for controlled, accurate colour presentation across different iPad models, compensating for screen variation. In the background, a statistical model analyses tap patterns to detect common colour vision deficiencies in real time.
Outcome
The application was validated and published in a peer-reviewed journal (Behavior Research Methods). It provides an indicative, non-clinical assessment suitable for use in field settings with children.
